The news is not good for Costa Cruise Lines. After having a cruise ship sink a month an a half ago, Costa Cruise Lines has said that their booking are down by about a third. The disaster has also put pressure on other cruise carriers as well, causing them to offer steep discounts and promotions. Now, on the heels of the a second Costa cruise ship becoming deiabled at sea, the Allegra caught fire a few days ago, the industry is bracing for more woes.
The troubles faced by Costa Cruise lines serve to underscore more general issues faced by cruise line passengers everyday, problems which do not usually get very much press time. Take this quote for instance:
A disabled cruise ship will have spent an extra 10 to 12 hours at sea without electricity, air conditioning or toilet facilities because a French fishing vessel that was first to respond to the drifting cruiser refused to give way to faster tug boats, a Seychelles government official said Wednesday.
Here we have a case of further inconvenience to the passengers because Costa can’t get its act together.
